The State of Missouri,
To all who shall see these presents--Greeting:
Know Ye, that Mary Ann Johnson aged twenty three,
years, Five feet one inches high, Large scar across
the left arm. at the elbow. washer by occupation,
daughter of Matilda Reed. + Wife of Edw Johnson
[and by occupation a ?] + who was emancipated in 1845 by A.E. Janny in the Circuit Court
having on the Second day of November in the
year of our Lord eighteen hundred and [forty ?] sixty produced satisfactory
evidence before the Board of County [Court ?] Commissioners of said county, that she is of the class of
free negros and mulattoes who are authorized by law to be licensed by said
[Court ?] Board to reside within the State of Missouri; that he is of good charac-
ter and behavior, and capable of supporting her self by lawful employment;
and having also obtained from said [Court ?] Board an order for a license to reside
within the State aforesaid; These are, therefore, to license and authorize the
said Mary Ann Johnson to reside within the State
aforesaid, so long as she shall be of good behavior, and no longer.
In Testimony Whereof, I. [Lewis F. Lacy ?] Samuel W. Eager Jr. Secretary of the
Board [Clerk ?] of the County [Court ?] Commissioners of said County, have here-
unto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Board [Court ?] at
the City of St. Louis, this Second
day of November in the year of our Lord
eighteen hundred and [forty ?] Sixty

County aforesaid, do hereby certify that I have this day duly registered the
foregoing license, according to the law.
