Know all men by their presents that I Maria Batesas principal
a free yellow Woman of Color and Willys King___
as her security are held and firmly bound unto the state of
Missouri in the Just and full sum of two hundred dollars
for the true payment of which said sum of money we
bond ourselves and each of our heirs Executors Administrators
and assigns
Jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed
with our seals and dated this third day of May in the year of
our Lord One Thousand eight hundred + forty three___

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas
the said Maria Bates has this day obtained from the County
court of St Louis County a License to remain in the State of as
Missouri under an act entitled "An Act to prevent free persons
of Color from entering into the state and for other purposes

Now if the said Maria Bates shall be of good behaviour --
during the continuance of said License then the above__
obligation to be void else to remain in full force & virtue
