Know all men by their presents that we
Jarett Veney as principal and David Keith
as security are held and firmly bound
unto the state of Missouri in the just and
full sum of two hundred dollars for the
true payment of which said sum of money
we had ourselves our and each of our
heirs executors administrators and assigns
jointly and severally firmly by these presents
sealed with our seals and dated this the
second day of May in the year of our Lord
One Thousand eight hundred + forty three
The condition of the above obligation is such
that whereas the said Jarett Veney has this
day obtained from the County court of St Louis
County a License to remain in the state as
a free person of Color under the provisions
of an act of the General Assembly of the
State of Missouri entitled "an act more effectually
to prevent free persons of color from
coming into the state and for other purposes
approved twenty third day of February in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred + forty three
Now the condition of this bond is that
of the said Jarett shall be of good behavior
during the conditioner of said License
then the above obligation to be void else
to be and remain in full force + virtue
