State of Missouri County of St Louis ss
Know all men by these presents that we
Francis Lee as principal Richard Dowling as secu-
rity Ackowledge ourselves to owe and be
indebted unto the State of Missouri in the
penal sum of four hundred dollars for
the payment of which we bind ourselves our
heirs executors and administrators the Condition
is such that whereas the County Court said
St Louis County in said State have this
day granted unto the above named Francis
Lee a Free negroe a license to remain
in said State now if the said Francis
Lee shall be of good behaviour as is
provided by the act of said State passed at the session of the legislature of 1843
and aproved on the 23d day of Febuary
1843 then this Obligation to be void othe-
rwise to remain in full force and virtue
