Know all men by these presents that I Matilda Butler
as principal and Samuel Somerville &
as securities are held & firmly bound unto the State of
Missouri, in the sum of Four Hundred dollars
to be paid to the State of Missouri, to which payment
well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves firmly
by these presents. Sealed with our seals, dated this
Twenty ninth day of March in the year of our Lord
eighteen hundred and forty four_

Now the condition of this obligation is such that
whereas the said Matilda Butler hath this day obtained
a license, from the County Court of St Louis County, under
an act entitled "An act more effectually to prevent
free persons of color from entering into this State and
for other purposes" to reside in the State of Missouri
as a free colored person. Now if the said Matilda
Butler shall during her residence in the said
State conduct herself in a peaceable and orderly
manner and be of good behaviour, then this
obligation to be void and of no effect, otherwise
to remain and be in full force and virtue.
