State of Missouri
County of St. Louis, ss

Dereck A January of
lawful age being duly sworn on his oath
states that he is acquainted with Margaret
Rose alias Margaret Smothers, that he has
known said Margaret for the last five or
six years during which time she has continued
to reside in the city of St. Louis. Deponent
knows said Margaret, has been considered
as a free person and he verily believes she
is free, said Margaret resided a part of
the time with deponent and from all that this
deponent has been able to learn in relation
to said Margaret, he verily believes she is free
deponent states that said Margaret is of
good character as far as this deponent
knows & believes.
