Know all men by these presents that we
[ ?] Meachum as principal and John B.
Meachum as security are held & firmly bound
unto the state of Missouri, in the full & hath
sum of Four hundred dollars for the true pay=
=ment whereof we bind ourselves our heirs, ex=
=ecutors, administrators & assigns jointly +
severally by these presents, sealed with our
seals and dated this fourth day of May
eighteen hundred & forty-three
The conditions of this obligation is such
that whereas Clemson Meachum has this day
obtained from the County Court of St Louis
County a license to remain in this state
and a free person of color, under the provisions
of an act [ ?] of the general
assembly of the state of Missouri entitled an
act more effectually to prevent free persons
of color from coming into this state, and for
other purposes approved twenty third day
. of February Eighteen hundred + forty three
Now the condition of this bond is such
that if the said [ ?], shall
be of good behaviour during the continance
of said license, thn the above obligation to
be void, otherwise to remain in full force & virtue
