Know all men by these presents that we
Anthony Emerson and Elijah Eads are held
and firmly bound unto the State of Missouri
each in the sum of two hundred dollars
for the true payment of which we bind
ourselves our heirs executors and administrators
firmly by these presents sealed with our seals
this 3d day of May in the year 1843

Now the condition of the above obligation is
such that whereas the County Court for the
County of St Louis and State of Missouri has
this day granted to Anthony Emerson a free
man of color a license to reside in the State
of Missouri. Now if the said Anthony Em-
erson shall properly demean himself and
continue and be of good behavior then this
obligation to be null and void otherwise to
remain in full force and virtue

*Henry J. Wise*
*Anthony his x mark Emmerson*
*Elijah C Eads*
