Know all men by these presents that I Edward
Green as principal a free man of color +
Thomas B Harden as his security on hold
and firmly bound unto the state of Missouri
in the just and full sum of two hundred
dollars for the true payment of which said
sum of money we bind ourselvs our and
each of our heirs executors administrators and
assigns jointly and severally firmly by these presents
sealed with our seals and dated this the
first-day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred + forty three.

The condition of the above obligation
is such, that wherever the said Edward
Green has this day obtained from the County
Court of St. Louis County a License to remain
in the state as a free man of color
under the provisions of "an act of the General Assembly
of the State of Missouri approved Entitled "An Act
to prevent free persons of color from entering
into this state and for other purposes" Now
if the said Edward Green shall be of good
behavior during the Continuance of said
license then the above obligation to be void
else the same to be and remaining in full force
and virtue
