County of the term of October in the
you eighteen hundred and seventeen
[illegible] William Clark [illegible] Manuel Lisa and
Henry [illegible] Piere [illegible] Chouteau August [illegible] Chouteau [illegible] [illegible]
[illegible] Labbadie [illegible] William [illegible] Morrison Peter [illegible] Menard [illegible]
& [illegible] Reuben Secris heretofore trading and doing [illegible] business [illegible] together
under the name form and style of the Missouri [illegible] Fur [illegible] Company
complain by their [illegible] Attorney of Charles [illegible] Satour in a
plea of [illegible] trespass on the case for that the said [illegible] Charles
heretofore [illegible] to wit on the eighteenth day of september in the
year of our lord one thousand eight hundred & eleven at
a place called [illegible] Fort [illegible] Ricaras on the Missouri river in the
[illegible] then county of saint [illegible] Charles now County of [illegible] Howard all
the Territory aforesaid- [illegible] to wit at the County of Saint Louis
aforesaid and [illegible] within the [illegible] jurisdiction of this court made
his certain writing of that duty under his ordinary mark
of hand land now here to be produced, whereby he acknowledged
to [illegible] owe to the above named [illegible] Manuel [illegible] Lisa as [illegible] Factor
and Agent of a said missouri [illegible] Fur Company for he was
then & there acting and doing [illegible] business as Agent and [illegible] Factor
for [illegible] & onbehalf of said plaintiff as [illegible] as for himself
is their trade [illegible] & business up said Missouri River- and

and the said Defendant then & there promised
to pay to said [illegible] Manuel [illegible] Lisa or his order
as Agent and Factor as aforesaid, by the name and
description of [illegible] Mr Manuel [illegible] Lisa [illegible] Facteu [illegible] de [illegible] la
comp [illegible] des [illegible] Fourerre [illegible] du [illegible] Missoury the [illegible] sum of
four hundred [illegible] & thirty one dollars and Ninety two
[illegible] cents to be paid in pound, or at three dollars [illegible] [illegible]
for the value thereof in an [illegible] for the [illegible] [illegible]
said Defendant then [illegible] [illegible] said Note in writing
to said Agent- which said [illegible] was to be [illegible] of there
paid and deliverd whereover [illegible] to [illegible] he said Defendant
should be [illegible] whereby an action he the [illegible]
to said plaintiff to have of then said Defendant the
sum mentioned in said writing according to the honor of
effect of the same Never [illegible] the said
Defendant thought open requested to pay the aforesaid
of money to said plaintiffs according to the [illegible] [illegible]
of said writing [illegible] on the first day of [illegible] in the
year at the place aforesaid [illegible] at the County of [illegible]
Louis aforesaid [illegible] never paid the said sum [illegible]
mentioned in said writing in [illegible] for at the rate
