William Clark / who [illegible] sues for the
[illegible] use of the united states / complains of [illegible] Horace Austin of
a plea of [illegible] Trespass on the [illegible] case for [illegible] that the [illegible] said defendant on the [illegible] seventeenth day of [illegible] august in the
year one thousand eight hundred Eleven [illegible] at the town
and [illegible] district of [illegible] Saint Louis , by [illegible] his certain promisory
note of that date by him by the name of [illegible] Horace Austin
[illegible], and to the said [illegible] William
then [illegible] & there delivering promising him by the name of
[illegible] Gen. William Clark [illegible] to pay to him [illegible] or order in five days from the date of said [illegible] note the the sum
of one hundred [illegible] forty eight dollars. [illegible] value received
[illegible] For the said Defendant [illegible] though often [illegible] required hath ever refusing [illegible] the [illegible] same form of
money to the plaintiff to pay to his damages for
the [illegible] use of the United States the sum of three
Hundred Dollars [illegible] Wherefore he sues.

he may be found within your [illegible] bailiwick and and him [illegible] safely keep so that you have his body before the judges of our
Court of common Pleas to [illegible] beholden at the town of St. Louis
in and for the district of St. Louis on the first monday of
July next then and there to Answer [illegible] unto William Clark for
the use of the United States in a plea of [illegible] trespasson the case
to the damage of the [illegible] & the sum of three hundred
