William Clark complains of
Charles [illegible] Bourguion , for this, that the said Charles at the
District aforesaid, on the [illegible] thirteenth day of July in
the year one thousand eight hundred and nine, by
his certain promissory note of that date by him with
his own proper hand writing, marks, or Signature then
and there pal made and subscribed promised
the plaintiffs as follows - on demand I promised
"to pay to Gen
William Clark , agent for the

“full sum of the hundred and Seventy six Dollars

of Saint Louis Greeting
We Command you to take Charles Bourguion if he may be found
within your Bailiwick and him safely keep so that you have his body before the
the judges of our Court of Common pleas to be holden at the town of St. Louis
on & for the District of St. Louis on the first Monday of November
next then there to answer unto William Clark for the use of the
Missouri Fur Company of a plea of trespass on the case to the [illegible]
damage of the said William the sum of Three hundred Dollars
& have you then there this writ:

*Witness the honorable Silas Bent presiding
judge of our said Court at the town of
St. Louis aforesaid this twenty fourth day of
July in the year of our Lord one thousand
