Know all by these presents that whereas an order has been made this second day of July eighteen hundred and forty seven by the Honorable Alexander Hamilton, Judge of the Circuit Court of St Louis Court that Harriet, a woman of color be allowed to sue for her freedom Now. therefore I Joseph Charless----------------------------------------------------------------------------- do by these presents acknowledge myself, my heirs, executors and administrators held and firmly bound to pay all costs that may be adjudged against the said Harriet in any suit instituted by her for her freedom in pursuance of the order aforesaid. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year aforesaid.
